The University of South Carolina libraries have been acquiring works by Scottish authors since the early nineteenth century. With collections such as The G. Ross Roy Collection of Burnsiana & Scottish Literature, The James Willard Oliver David Hume Collection, The Rodger L. Tarr Collection of Thomas Carlyle, and The Jean Redpath Archive, the University is home to one of the most extensive collections of Scottish literature outside of Scotland. These collections include poetry anthologies, novels, histories, and scholarship ranging from the sixteenth- through the twentieth-century.

                

Additionally, since 1965, the University of South Carolina has been home to Studies in Scottish Literature (founded in 1963), the leading refereed scholarly journal in its field, publishing new research and critical debate on all periods of Scottish literature.
